I'm 27...what next? A bucket list and other personal ponders

I turned 27 yesterday. Next year I'll be 27, again. And after that.. oh yeah, 27. Isn't this the age, when you magically stop getting older? Not to mention the dangerousness of the age..if I were a rock star that is. You could call this an age crisis post, which I of course don't have. 30 is still far away. Isn't it?!

Birthdays always get me thinking. What have I already done? What have I achieved? Is this the life I imagined for myself as a little girl? And most importantly, what do I want to do in the future? What should I do next? I always seem to have so many different ideas on what to do with my life but very seldom do I actually stop to think about the moment I live in right now.

To answer a few of my questions above, I must say I've achieved a lot. But I don't think this is exactly the life I imagined for myself all those years ago. If I remember correctly, I wanted to become a stay-at-home-mum before I turn 25, a popstar or a famous actress. And to be very honest, it doesn't bother me one bit, that my childhood "dream" didn't come true. I've done so many other amazing things, which I wouldn't give up for anything! I have a masters degree in education (M.Ed), which kind of includes a bachelors degree in sports science. I'm married. I have an amazing day job, and I have a blog which I'm so proud of. I instruct fitness classes, which I thought I would never be able to do, because I used to be so so shy. I travel at least twice every year. I have the best friends I could ever wish for, including you lovelies here online. And you know what? I feel super lucky and thankful for all of this. Sometimes I feel like I need to pinch myself, just to make sure all of this is real.

Perfect and easy aren't however the words to describe my life. And no matter how much the media or blogs and vlogs might make it seem like it, I don't believe they describe anybody's life very well. I've had my downs and I tend to be such a silly drama queen that I take things like that very seriously. But I'm not the kind of person to dwell in those memories. They've happened and the only right way to think of them is to learn and move on. Maybe try again. The key is to choose to move on.

What I want next? A new laptop, new pink makeup brushes and a handbag? Well yes please, I'm open to all donations haha. But seriously though, the older I get, the more I have a desire for experiences, to do and feel things. What's it like to eat fresh fruits in Bali? What's it like to live in a new country? What's it like to see wild dolphins? What's it like to walk along the Great Wall of China? My bucket list clearly includes a lot of traveling. And in order to actually start doing something towards my desires, I thought I'd show you the whole list. It just makes it all so much more real.

1. Eat fresh fruit in Bali
2. Eat pizza in Naples
3. Try surfing in Australia
4. Own a luxury handbag
5. Buy a house
6. Become a Sh'bam-class instructor
7. Swim with wild dolphins
8. Move to the UK (for the second time)
9. Have a child and/or adopt a child
10. Attend a blogger event
11. Go whale watching
12. Stay in a bungalow in Bora Bora
13. Visit every continent
14. Learn to handstand for more than 15 seconds
15. Become a yoga teacher
16. Learn to use my camera properly
17. See Neuschwanstein castle in Germany
18.  Go in a hot air balloon
19. Own a sausage dog
20. Wander around the Highlands in Scotland

  1. Happy Birthday Emma! You are exactly 8 days older than I am, doesn't that call for a celebration? Haha. I know exactly what you mean about living the life that was completely different from what you imagined...I envisioned myself getting married at 21! No way in hell would I ever have been prepared for that! But despite life making twists and turns, even if we don't end up exactly where we planned, our lives are still beautiful and there is so much to be thankful for. I love your bucket list too. A Bora Bora bungalow sounds great especially for a honeymoon, but so so expensive! A girl can dream right? I would love to visit every continent too...except Antarctica. I can't stand the cold. lol. May this year bring out endless love and blessings for you! <3

Oh yeah, I too thought I'd be married by 21 but I feel exactly the same and lucky I didn't get married back then. Not that it was even an option haha :D life is amazing and it definitely knows how to do surprises and that's just the best <3 thanks for the super lovely comment Hannah. I hope the wedding plans are going well and that you have a great weekend <3 xxx

  5. Once again, happy (belated) birthday, my sweet girl!!! I couldn't be more proud to call you my blogger bestie and connect with you on so many levels, sweetie!! You're such a sweetheart <3
Girlie, don't even tell me about the big three O because I still refuse to believe I said goodbye to my 20s a few months ago. Time flies but hey, I feel about 26. For a number of years now lol. So what you said is 100% accurate :D
I have also imagined so many things when I was younger. I thought I would have at least 2 kids by the time I reach my late late 20s haha. It's so silly and quite fun to look back. We had such unrealistic fantasies and, just like yourself, I am so happy things worked out the way they did. I wouldn't change a thing and I am so thankful for everyone and everything in my life <3
For a number of years now our savings are mostly invested in travel and experiences. People often ask me how come I travel so much. I work UBER hard but I am not a spender (I rarely splurge and my makeup collection is super tiny for a blogger lol). But we save every penny towards something bigger - experiences :) I LOVE your list and I KNOW you will do and enjoy every item on it and more.
Love you to bits, girlie!!! And happy birthday, you babe 🎉🎉🎉

  10. I love this post. It's always so good for the soul to think about what you want to do. I think the main thing I want to do in my life is to have a family. I'm definitely not ready yet but I really hope to later in life.

  11. Hey Emma!! Love LOVE LOVE this blog post! First of all, I hope you had an amazing birthday! Second, I totally resonated with a lot of what you wrote cause I celebrated my 28th birthday this year and I seriously wanted time to sort of stop! LOL As I get closer to 30, I definitely think more and more about what I have achieved and sometimes it gives me anxiety. But when I take a step back I realize so many things I have done and so many things I can still do in the future!

I do love your bucket list!! I have been compiling one for a while but I think I'll be sharing mine on my blog soon so it will motivate me to start crossing things off and sharing my experience with everyone.

Anyways, I hope 27 treats you well and that this year ends up being one filled with much happiness, love & joy!!

    1. Thank you so much Crissy for the lovely comment <3 I guess the key is to realize that no, you can't stop time and that you should stop worrying about it and perhaps just stop and think sometimes. That's enough :)
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend sweetie <3 xxx
