Anywhere Anytime Fullbody HIIT Workout


I'm off for a little winter break in Dubai in a couple of days. I'll definitely be vlogging the trip and as usual I'll try and be as active as possible on social media, so make sure you follow me on Twitter and Instagram (@wellemmaa). Although this week has acutally been rather nice weatherwise and for example on Wednesday I spent three hours outside in the sunshine teaching ice skating (made me remember why I wanted to become a physical education teacher), I couldn't be happier to take some time off, say hi to the sun and go explore a completely new place to myself. I've obviously made sure our hotel has a gym, but there's no guarantee of the quality of it and I probably won't have time to go to a separate gym while I'm there. So I decided to put together some hardcore bodyweight movements, which should make your body burn and heart rate up in a very short time. Perfect to do in a hotel room or just generally anywhere. Here's how it works:

1. Warm up 
Always warm up for about 5-10 minutes. Do little jumps, lift your knees a bit and just generally get your blood flowing.

2. Pyramid workout
This workout requires only 5 movements and you are going to do 3 rounds, which all vary in length, the first round being the longest and the last one the shortest. In the first round you do each movement for 40 seconds, in the second round for 30 seconds, and the last round for only 20 seconds. You get to rest for a minute after each round. The movements I picked are:

a) burpees
b) superman press ups (lower yourself to the ground, stretch your arms straight infront of you, push yourself back up)
c) lunge jumps 
d) mountain climber
e) jumping jacks

Try to be as fast as possible in each movement. While resting, don't stand completely still but rather walk around a bit. If you stop completely moving, it's only going to be harder to continue the next round.

3. Cool down & drink water

And that's it. Very quick and super effective. You can obviously change the movements to match your fitness level, but keep in mind that because this workout is very short, the movements should be fairly hard.

  4. I keep saying it... I hate working out. Also, my knees make this cracking sounds when I do jumping jacks, and even other jumping excercises... So I get a bit worried about that, too... All in all, I can't wait for the spring to go rollerskating and to play tennis :)
