Healthy & Active Date Ideas for Valentine's Day

Valentine's day is approaching and I thought I'd think of a few active and just generally a bit different ideas for dates. Personally I love sitting down for dinner or going to the cinema with a huge bag of sweeties (and my But if you really want to spend some quality time with a special someone, is really sitting down quietly the best way to do so? I came up with some alternatives  and while trying them out you can also stay dedicated to being healthy and active even on Valentine's Day.

1. A walk to a lovely destination
To the beach, the nearby forest, the common, around town... Loads to see and talk about while staying mildly active.

2. Ice skating
While chit chatting, you'll be doing an amazing lower body workout without even noticing. Except maybe the next day.

3. Smoothie bar
Rather than going for the traditional after-work drinks in the local pub, why not exchange the drinks into something healthier? Smoothies are yummy and full of vitamins. Pick different ones with your date so you get to taste two kinds of smoothies.

4. Cooking class
This is probably my favourite idea of these all. How much fun could you have learning something new together? I'm not even into cooking that much and I could totally see myself getting very excited at an event like this.

5. Couples massage
I wouldn't recommend this as a first date. Or I don't know, would you? :D But if you're a thing already and know each other rather well, I think relaxing together and getting rid of some muscle soreness at the same time is a lovely idea.

6. Try out your and/or your dates fave way to workout
Obviously this depends on what kind of workouts you both enjoy doing. Luckily, no matter how advanced the workout is, there are usually beginners classes available, which I recommend rather than just taking your date to your practice and them not getting anything out of it.

7. Play tourists in your own city
Check out destinations before hand and wander around your town together. I still find it rather amusing how locals never seem to go to the tourist attractions in their own home city or town. I remember always being so amazed by how little of London my cousins had seen, them being actual Londoners and me just a visitor (although a very frequent one). But now that I think of it, I never really visit the attractions of Helsinki either.

8. Tandem biking
This requires warmer weather conditions. But again a really cool way to exercise together. I've never tried it myself, but it looks like a lot of fun!

9. Play squash
Locked in a small room with just your date. That's basically the situation in squash. Expect an amazing workout, prepare yourself with a huge water bottle and beware not to hit your date with your racket (happened to me once, sorry hubby hehe).

10. Indoor rock climbing
This workout requires trust. If your afraid of hights try bouldering.

My last and final tip is dedicated to those who couldn't care less about Valentine's Day  or aren't going on a date for other reasons and feel a bit bad about it: do a kick-ass workout. Forget about all the love birds around you and concentrate on yourself. You'll feel massively better afterwards. :)

Hope you liked my tips. What are you doing for Valentine's Day this year?

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Nothing. I have never celebrated Valentines Day, it is my birthday just a week before that, so I am alreday spoiled by my loved ones.
But I love the idea of active dates, we do sit way too much already.

    1. I've never celebrated it much myself other than given a couple more hugs to friends maybe :D . And active dates work anytime of course, not only on Valentine's day :) xx

  2. We had a couples massage last year just before Valentine's day and it was the best! This year we are having a nice dinner at home and maybe some cake and watch our favourite tv shows.

    1. Sounds lovely Yiota! Proper relaxing :) happy weekend <3 xx

  3. Generally, everyone likes to receive gifts, but the person whose love language is “gifts” is serious about what the gift means. For him or her, flowers and candy are treasures not based on what they cost, or how long they last, but because they are specifically associated with heart-felt love on Valentine's Day Valentine Gifts

Thanks for commenting and have a lovely day<3 xxx
